Came to my notice that Sumer Johal is currently (March 2005) CTO of Pivotal Systems, a Pleasanton, California CA based company that claims on its website that 'Pivotal Systems provides products that solve some of the toughest yield and throughput plasma etch and deposition challenges in high-volume manufacturing. With its revolutionary combination of non-intrusive sensors and proprietary software, Pivotal assures exactly the same optimum process outcome, run after run, lot after lot, regardless of drifts in process or tool parameters. This is accomplished with a suite of in situ, closed-loop control solutions that keep plasma-based etch and deposition processes centered in the process window.'

Sumer Johal is the CTO. Besides him, other executives of the compnay include Joseph Monkowski (CEO), Sherk Chung (VP of Engineering), John Field (VP of Sales) and Mukund Venkatesh (VP of Marketing).

Most recently, Sumer Johal was the CTO and VP of Engineering for Advanced Energy's Data Management Business Unit. While there, he helped develop and deploy sophisticated applications that solve semiconductor process control problems in fabs worldwide. Johal started his career as a process and device engineer at Analog Devices. After ADI, Johal launched PSG, a company providing real-time, shop-floor scheduling systems to fabs worldwide. Subsequently, he led the Technology and Engineering organizations at C-Tribe and Xamplify where he developed next-generation real-time computational analytics applications for large transaction management systems.

Sumer Johal has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from MIT and an M.S. in Computer Science, also from MIT.

Discrimination, Harassment and Business Fraud

Don't know about the business model of Pivotal Systems. Perhaps, it's a genuine company. However, presence of Mr. Johal there as a CTO, makes me wonder. The company knows about his past but still continues to employ him! Whatever. Meanwhile, if you feel you have been (racially?) discriminated and/or harassed by Johal and any other executive of this company; or as a customer feel that their products are not performing as promised - you may contact me if you need to. Let's root out unethical business practices.
