Robert Oliver

Bob Oliver became an investor first and then while he was the chair at Fair Isaac Company, he started coming regularly to Xamplify Inc. 2-3 times a week or more. Sumer Johal was his favorite. Sumer Johal, Jeffrey Klein and Bob Oliver would discuss matters behind closed doors for hours.

Bob Oliver and Sumer Johal

I couldn't understand what Bob Oliver and Sumer Johal could discuss together. Once I saw Robert Oliver entering the meeting room with "Value at Risk" by Jorion. Later when I asked Sumer Johal about his experience with Bob Oliver, he really seemed excited. He had no background in statistics and finance and didn't seem too bright and had questionable business ethics - just the right type of person Robert Oliver and his gang seem to love. Sumer Johal seemed to be on way to becoming another Kamal Duggirala or more! Top-notch people in the financial industry were meeting him and it seems like he was becoming well-known. Robert Oliver seemed to be contributing to this to a large extent. Not only did they spent much time together in the meeting room, they started going out together. No, not in that sense, I mean going out together to meet potential customers. Seemed like company policy was to keep everything hidden from me (I was the only one without an office phone too - I guess too dangerous in case customers call me and find out the truth) , but once, after they had returned from a long business trip, I happened to be shown an email from a customer inadvertently, and whatever I could read quickly led me to believe that they were lying to the potential cutomers unless that customer really misunderstood them.

Bob Oliver and Me

My desk was in the back office where Indian are normally kept. In my case, I directly faced a small kitchen so that when the white bosses went to get some soda or drink from the kitchen they could see me directly and be assured that your slave was working hard. A few minutes of my absence used to make them so nervous! (Morning after I left by resigning because of rampant racism and other discrimination at Xamplify, Thomas Emerson, Julian Brookes and one more senior management team member were let go!) Robert Oliver, whenever he came to the company, often made a trip to the kitchen to get a soft drink, and however hard I tried to look at him, he would just avert my gaze and we never met eye contact. Not even once. No, not guilty conscious, just shy, I guess. Or he just didn't want to stray from his devotion to Sumer Johal!

Bob Oliver, CIA, and Money Laundering

One very late night the fax machine next to my desk started and being curious who would send fax at such an odd time, I looked at it. It was apparently from CIA addressed to Robert Oliver. Later the company came up with its claims that it could detect money laundering by doing some sort of extrapolation. Agent Oliver might get a medal or something for being such a patriot. I should be careful.;)
